Small wheels conducted courses
Unless things change, all our trials in 2012, (including evenings) EXCEPT the Basic on 11/3/12 will feature Kids conducted courses for small & medium wheels classes. In addition to those usual courses, at the 6 remaining Novices and Beginners Trials there will also be a separate course for the E class 4-6 year olds as part of the Oset cup series. 4-6 year olds can still ride at the other events but there will be no specific route for them, just the normal Kids conducted route(s).
Home Farm Practise
You'll now find details of practise days for trials and enduro at www.parkwood4x4 or click on "Home Farm Practise' in our Links section
2012 Rules etc - Update
Our Club trials for 2012 will continue to run as TRS22A stop permitted for the foreseeable. The 'Basic' Yorkshire Centre Trial on 11th March (just one hard route) and the WYC Trial on 27th May (Hard, Clubmen and 50/50 routes) will run under TRS22B (5 for a stop) as that is what the Yorkshire Centre have decided. The only other change is that our 3rd Easy route, previously marked with orange and green will be marked green/green as the orange flags were often confused with the hard course red flags - unless of course that ends up being even more confusing in which case we'll have to think again! Any bright ideas?

Online trials registration 2012
It is now possible to renew (or at some time in the future apply for your first) ACU Trials registration online. Either paste this into your browser to go direct to the ACU Members Login Page https://members.acu.org.uk (you will need your current registration number to hand) or Click on the 'ACU Registration' link in the 'Links' tab where you can either choose to use the online registration or download a form to print and fill in as before (the ACU should send you a renewal form anyway if you haven't already got it).
Whichever method you choose you will need a magic number supplied by the club (contact Barrie Fairburn). The magic number is provided on renewal of the Horsforth club membership for next year, a tenner for adults and a fiver for juniors 16 and under. Ps - the online system works a treat.
Yorkshire Centre ACU
The Yorkshire Centre ACU now has it's own website (and to be fair it's pretty good). There's a link on our Links page or this is the URL
www.yorkshirecentreacu.co.uk. Have a gander to see what's there. For instance we put Centre Regs on our website if the hosting club sends them to us but you will probably find a more complete set on the Centre site.
Observation Rules
Once again the FIM and ACU have been faffing with the rules again.
The World round riders (especially since the harsh marking in France) are now giving the marker flags a wide birth as with the new FIM rule they will get a 5 simply for TOUCHING a flag with bike or body. Luckily we don't have such a harsh rule to contend with BUT the ACU made a late change to that 'displacing a flag' rule for 2011. The original wording (as found on the back of our observers' boards) was "If the rider is held responsible for displacing a flag, marker or support etc." but this has now changed to "If the rider is held responsible for displacing a marker or support in an observed section whereby the observer considers it necessary to reinstate the flag /marker prior to the passage of the next rider".
Whilst our springy metal flags are very forgiving if you bend or flatten one its a 5. This does put the onus rather more on the observer to replace/straighten the flag as soon as it gets moved/flattened. However if you as a rider don't want to accidentally end up with a 5 for a previous riders misdemeanour you would do well to ensure, between yourself and the observer, that all the flags are just where they are meant to be; all upright and standing to attention and in EXACTLY the place the Course Setter put them!
Regs Available
Events open to other clubs (ie Group events) require 'Regulations' to be published (an entry form) in advance.
You can now find the Regs for our own Group Trials plus any from other clubs to which our members are invited in the Regs tab on the menu bar
New Sponsor
The popular rider Adrian Hanson has stepped in and taken up the sponsorship of the Clubs Championship series. New section marking for 2011 (&2012)
To try to better cater for the big spread of expertise across our members we will marking out the routes differently in 2011 for our day time trials. On the main trials, but excepting the Basic at Blubberhouses in March which has just one (hard) route and the WYG trial at the end of May which has 2, there will be 3 routes. But we have had 3 routes for a couple of years I hear you say! Not quite true; we had the main 'hard' course of red and blue; then there were easier option gates of white and yellow so that's 2 routes; but the 50/50 just used either one or the other and this compromised the severity level of the sections they ride. So the plan is; Route A, Hard Course, Red & Blue. Route B, Clubmen course (it may still say 50/50 on the Entry Form until we use old stock up), Red & Blue except any easier White and Yellow gates must be ridden through. Route C, Easy course, Orange (right) and Green (left) gates (NB for 2012 THE ORANGE WILL BE REPLACED WITH GREEN SO THE EASY COURSE WILL HAVE GREEN FLAGS LEFT AND RIGHT. Where the Easy course follows one of the other routes we will put the GREEN and Green flags in as well so Easy course riders will ignore all other flags except for the start and end Red & Blues; (however if the end of a section is quite severe eg a steep climb, we might make a separate End Gate on the Easy course by using pairs of crossed Greens). The severity of the sections should be similar to what we have had in the past except it gives us scope to make the Easy course a bit easier, particularly on Beginners trials. As previously, the severity of all sections will be greater on Group or Champs trials compared to Beginners trials so riders may well find themselves choosing to ride a different course depending on the type of trial.
On the Kids Conducted Course (which are present at Champs, Beginners and evening trials) there will be routes of different severity to choose from. For consistency the routes will probably be flagged Orange (on the right) and Green on the easy route and White (on the right) and Yellow on the harder.

Message to a minority...
First a question; what sort of a person thinks it is perfectly ok to come to one of our trials, held on private land quite often occupied by farm animals, and leave their empty cans, crisp packets and various other bits of rubbish at the venue?
This isn?t just a problem at Swaine Woods (as mentioned on the Home Page), we?ve seen evidence of rubbish being dumped after a trial at many of our venues.
As an example, it was reported at the December Club meeting that the owner of the land at Heck Gill is not happy with the rubbish found there after the trial on 24/10. Now this is a great piece of land, which is also his back garden not to mention cow pasture. And it?s entirely possible we might lose the use of it because (some of) our members can?t respect it.
Now if the thoughtless morons who do this are happy to live knee deep in rubbish in their own homes/gardens, that?s absolutely fine. But there is no way that it is either reasonable or practical for us to scour the venues to clear up after the selfish slobs who do this and, on behalf of the majority of our club members, we are not prepared to have the use of the land jeopardized.
Finding (and keeping) good venues is not easy, especially now that ecological aspects are in sharp focus so this is something which is very serious issue.
So, the message is very simple;- anyone spotted willfully discarding rubbish at our Trial venues will no longer be welcome. Membership rescinded. Forever.
And their names circulated to the other local clubs with the reason why.
There aren?t that many of us who organize the events so we would like to appeal to the majority of our membership to keep an eye open for rubbish.
If you see any lying around bring it back to the Start and we will get rid of it.
If you see someone actually dropping rubbish, even a sweet wrapper, all that?s needed is to politely request that they pick it up and take it home.
And if that doesn?t work then just tell someone back at the Start and we will deal with it.
Observation Rules
There are (at least) 2 sets of observing rules and over recent years they have changed a few times so it's hardly surprising that people are confused.
For our Trials the club has stuck with TRS22a where stopping is permitted as opposed to TRS22b where it isn't. But even the TRS22a stop permitted rules have in the past penalised a stop with a 1.
To clear it up, the current rules (2011) are no penalty for a stop.
The rules are in the ACU handbook which is dowloadable in pdf format from the ACU website (go to Links on the menu bar).
