The threat to motorsport explained below appears to have been averted, for more info click here.
On the ‘FightVnuk’ website (link below) you can a) sign the petition b) write to your MP (likely to be more effective so do both!) and also read BoJo’s take on this farce (click on the ‘updates’ tab)
A letter from Gary Thompson, General Secretary ACU
Help us save UK Motorsport
Following the landmark ‘Vnuk’ case, the European Court of Justice has ruled that national laws must be changed to ensure that all mechanically propelled vehicles are insured for third-party losses regardless of type of use, in all places, at any time.
This applies to everything from Formula One racing cars, to mobility scooters, to antique trams and everything in-between (obviously includes all forms of motorcycle sport).
The UK Government opened a consultation on Wednesday 21st December, seeking views on two proposed ways forward. You can read more here: www.fightvnuk.co.uk.
So how can you help? We have started a petition asking that HM Government under no circumstances implements the ‘Vnuk’ judgement in a way that encompasses vehicles involved in motor and motorcycle sport activities.
Website: www.fightvnuk.co.uk (petition and facility to write to your MP, plus further info)
Petition: http://bit.ly/2i6Cgsf (link straight to Change.org petition only)
Can I ask you please to sign the petition to show the Government the strength of support we have in Motorcycle sport and then please disseminate this email as far and as wide as you can to all the Membership and likewise encourage all our Licence Holders and anyone you know who rides motorcycles/enjoys the sport as a competitor/official/spectator to sign the petition.
